What is a Strata Lawyer?

A strata lawyer is a lawyer who specialises in strata and community title law and assists lot owners, owners corporations, executive committees, building managers, strata managers with legal issues that arise in relation to strata schemes.  Common issues that a strata lawyer can assist you with include:

1.   Specialist strata law advice

2.   Drafting and responding to strata adjudication applications and submissions for use at NCAT

3.   Drafting, amending and repealing strata by-laws

4.   By-law disputes involving parking on common property, unauthorised works to common property, the keeping of pets, etc

5.   The recovery of unpaid strata levies/special levies

6.   Building defects in strata schemes

Some other issues which a strata lawyer can assist are requests and demands from local councils and other governmental bodies which are in a position to make demands of owners corporations.  It is common for owners corporations to come into conflict with their residents over maintenance and repair issues involving common property. Issues frequently arise between builders, owners corporations and residents of strata schemes when defective building work exists.

His personal experience living in a 12-lot strata scheme for 13 years, including 2 years serving on the strata committee, gives Michael unique, firsthand insights into the everyday complexities faced by his clients.

          This blend of professional expertise and lived experience enables Michael to provide pragmatic and insightful legal advice, ensuring his guidance is both legally sound and practically relevant.
